Bike Rave
BikeRave

Start: Sat, 13 Feb 2016
Time: 6:00 pm
Finish: Sun, 14 Feb 2016 12:00 am
Meeting place: The Angel Sculpture, Birrarung Marr, Melbourne, Australia

Details

The most fun you can have on two wheels! Bike Rave weaves through the streets of the city pumping out tunes from sound bikes. If you came last year, you know what we are talking about, if you’ve never been before…you are in for a treat.

Welcome to the Bike Rave 2016, there are a few things that you need to do to make this rave awesome.

THE MUSIC:
We have curated a 4 hour mix from some very talented producers for this Bike Rave. The mix is full of pumping party tunes to keep you dancing all night long.

Check back soon to download the mix!

Need sound for your bike? Get a basket and some computer speakers, or head to Jaycar, JB-HIFI, etc to setup a self contained set. There are some great solutions from $15, and some pretty impressive creations. Just remember to charge those batteries.

BRIGHT LIGHTS:
Nothing makes a rave better than the input of the people. So this is one time that I recommend dressing up full fluoro whilst riding your bike.

Think bright lights, reflective jackets, crazy hair, glow sticks, EL wire, or anything else that flashes and blinks. This isn’t just about making sure that you look awesome, make sure your bike is pimped out also.

Everyone knows somewhere that sells this kind of stuff, so if you find someplace cool, let us know.

THE ROUTE:
We’ll be gathering at 6:00pm at Birrarung Marr (The Angel) and launching at 7:00pm sharp. We’ve planned a few stops along the way to do some dancing and find / lose your friends:

Check back soon for the route!

THE WEATHER:
If its nice out, we ride. If it’s cloudy, we ride. If its raining a little, we might ride. If it’s pouring, we don’t ride. Our speakers will get messed up. If you aren’t sure, show up anyways. Someone will be there from 5:30pm to let people know if the ride is cancelled.

#BIKERAVEMELBOURNE

BikeRave was founded in Vancouver but is shared around the world. When an image is uploaded to instagram with #bikeravemelbourne you will see it here!

https://tagboard.com/bikeravemelbourne

IMPORTANT!
We are not responsible for your safety; YOU ARE!
We have done our best to ensure that the route is well lit and safe, but it does involve a little riding on the road and in the dark and past people. We should attempt to obey all traffic laws. If we get split up, we can rejoin at one of the several stopping points along the ride, so please stop at red lights and stop signs.

EVERYTHING ELSE
If you would like to get involved with you can send us a message here on the facebook, and we will get back to you as soon as we can. If you have a serious sound bike, get in touch, we will spread you out along the ride. If you want to take photos or film the event, come along!

BIKESPOT-FLYER

Finish: 5:00 pm
Meeting place: The Shed, Sustainable Living Festival, Birrarung Marr

Details

A forum at the Sustainable Living Festival on Sunday February 14th will launch BikeSpot, a unique bike safety project. Intended to uncover where Melbournians feel least safe while riding, the BikeSpot project will be officially launched at the forum RIDING IN MELBOURNE: PERCEIVED FEAR OR REAL RISK- Is our fear of riding holding us back?

A panel of expert speakers including Pip Carroll, Founder and Director of The Squeaky Wheel, Jane Waldock, Manager Sustainability & Strategic Transport, City of Yarra and Alexander Sheko, Consultant, GTA Consultants will examine perceived risk, how it affects people’s decision to ride and how this plays out in Melbourne.

Melbourne is still striving to become a world-class cycling city. Is fear of riding holding it back or is it genuinely unsafe on the roads? The panel discussion will be followed with the opportunity for questions from the audience.
